Spice Gate, Ipoh -Chemor trunk road

On our way back from customers' site, we dropped by at Spice Gate for lunch. It is quite new, as last month when I passed by that area, it was not open yet.
This Indian restaurant serves great banana leaf rice. It is located after Kinta Free Trade Zone along Ipoh-Chemor trunk road if you are driving from Ipoh. Normally, we will opt for Restoran Samy in Chemor for banana leaf. However, recently, I feel that they standard has dropped...anyway, back to Spice Gate....the Vegetarian banana leaf cost RM4/=, taste good...

For RM4, they are giving quality vegetables, not the cheap ones....

We also ordered Chicken 65 - the boneless fry chicken - RM8.00

Basically, the chicken is marinated with different spices plus yogurt. This one taste good...There are many stories behind the name of this dish. Some said because there are 65 chillies being used for one full chicken, some said it was in the item #65 in the menu, some said it is tastier to cook this dish with chicken that is 65 days old etc....

I ordered the mango lassi, that goes well with curry, kind of smoothing effect.

However, this one is very thick for me, and quite expensive, cost RM8/=, more expensive than the meal....

If you love Banan Leaf rice,it is worth a try as the ambiance is good &most importantly the food is tasty.

65 days old chicken. That is pretty old. Takes about 38 days to grow a farm chicken to maturity business-wise! But the dish sure looks very good and not over-done. A lot of Indian/mamak restaurant over-cooked and the meat is tough.

Worldwindows, yea, now the commercial one will definetely not keep the chicken for 65 days, that's where the vaccination came in to "force them grow fat". Anyway, you're right, this is quite tender inside, not over-cooked.

Duckie, yes, this really taste good, can compare to some nice one in Penang haha...
