100 Yen@Ipoh

If I am not mistaken, 100 Yen opened it's door for more than 8 months opposite Ipoh Parade. I've been there few times for shopping but first time trying their food. To my surprise the snow ice mango we ordered was really good, best thing to have for a hot afternoon! Really cooling!I love the smooth ice and my fav food mango - perfect combination!

The Taiwanese style fried chicken, in fact is quite standard, more or less like the one available in pasar malam...taste good!

Nice place for some light and handy snacks!!

Sin Hup Kee Restaurant

This place in town serves tasty dishes and it's a place for big group dining because the price is reasonable and food quality is consistently tasty.
One of their signature dish is curry assam fish, nicely done which the sauce is either not too sour or too thick! 8/10 rating.

Other dishes we ordered during our last visit...their signature tofu was lovely. 8/10

The vege

Pan fried chicken was quite ok 6/10

Another tofu dish - steamed tofu - more like home cooked style, not bad though!

The only disappointed one was sweet and sour pork ribs, we all don't like it 4/10

Total bill came to RM138.50 for 10 adults, 2 kids. MSG level was low and serving was quite fast. The only drawback is the ambiance, the restaurant is a bit too small to accommodate the big crowd, a noisy place.

Finally - Foh San Dim Sum,Ipoh

Eventually, I went to visit the newly located nicely renovated Foh San Dim Sum. Weekday morning @7am, still crowded, but we managed to get a seat.

It was some disappintment during our dim sum dining, all the 5 of us concluded that dim sum quality has dropped here. Check this out...
The "gaos".i.e. har gao, crystal gao, jiu chai gao etc were out! The skins were super thick...mind you, it was not like that before!

The chee cheong fun was also lousy, only few have fillings inside, not up to mark

My favourite dim sum item - siew mai was just run of the mill, I think Ming Court and Yuk Fook Moon is better!!!

Frankly, after the thick skin gaos I was out of mood, I didn't snap a few items on the is due to the mass production they are not maintainig the quality? God knows.....

At least the char siew pau they still maintain the standard, thank God!

I would rather dine in a simple restaurant that serves authentic quality food rather than a big posh building with mediocre food. Foh San really disappointed me!

Bee Home Cafe @Taman Ipoh Perdana

Live every day as if it were your last, because one of these days you will be right. ----Unknown author

I read J2kfm's blog about this place and decided to pay a visit because I love Siam Laksa. I remember there used to be a nice one in Canning Garden but now the couple were no more selling there.sigh...

The signature Sharon's Siam laksa(RM5.90) was ordered, hmm, to me it was a bit sweet and not as nice as the one I used to's ok anyway, will give 6/10.

My friend told me Sharon's has been making this for more than 10 years. Initially she used to do home catering.

The Assam laksa (RM5.90)was not bad as well...I'll give a 6/10 for this

The nasi lemak was THE STAR, simply lovely! Generous portion only @RM7.90

The Fried Sambal "Lo Shu Fun" was really huge plate @RM5.90. It was ok, not very oily but of course can't compare with those fried with lard one, "Wok He" is not there also...maybe it's a healthier version!

I ordered gingko tea and found it very soothing. Eventually end up buying a box from them. One cup @RM3.90. A box with 10packets@11.90.

Sharon gave us a free trial of their new item - Pie Tee....thanks!

With a nice ambiance and above average food at Bee Home Cafe, I'll definitely come back to check out other items in their menu!

Spice Gate 2nd Visit

The Indian food serves at Spice Gate is up to standard( as far as Ipoh is concerned).Ever since our first visit, we already felt in love with the food here.
If you love naan, it is highly recommended to order this naan set with chicken tikka. The chicken tikka is well marinated, juicy and tender. Not to mention, the fluffy naan was super good combination. I also love the mint sauce, so refreshing.

The chicken portion was huge, enough for 2 pax actually. This set price at RM12/set.

Besides that, the lunch meal here is good as well. Dahl was so nice here. I feel is far better than most of the Indian restaurant in town.

Set meal@RM4, Friday special comes with lovely dessert payasam.

On top of that, the service was quite good and the place is rather hygienic!

Maybe you can consider this for lunch?? Have a great weekend!!

My very own -Mango Sago Pomelo Dessert 楊枝甘露

Last week, I made my own version of Mango Sago Pomelo Dessert. I've seen on TV on a simple recipe of this dessert, so I decided to try it.

4- 5 sweet mangoes
Sago ( about 20g )
Pomelo flesh( since I love it, I added 5 pieces)
Whipping Cream( about 50ml-100ml) - depends whether you like it to be creamier
Coconut mik - about 100ml ( I used M&S brand low fat 200ml packet)
Rock Sugar ( as per desired -if your mangoes are sweet, don't have to use much )

1st Step:
Boil the sago

2nd Step:
Peel off the skin and take the flesh of pomelo

3rd Step:
Take out the flesh of the mangoes and blend it - without adding water. After the mangoes is fully blended, add whipping cream to it and blend again.

4th Step:
Boil the rock sugar with water and add coconut milk once the sugar dissolved.

5th Step:
Once the sugar and coconut milk has cool off at room temperature, add them to the blended mangoes with whipping cream. Then add sago and pomelo together.
Then, the nice home made dessert is done.
Oops....for mango lover like me, don't forget to add some cut mangoes to the dessert as well.

Keep the mango sago pomelo in the fridge, have it cold, it's so nice. Anyway, my first experiment of this dessert is quite ok. Next time, I think I'll try it with milk, instead of whipping cream .Coz this is quite creamy - can't take too much!
I've got a 8/10 rating from bf, not bad la for my first trial!!!

Seafood@ Kg Cina, Setiawan

Last weekend, we went for a seafood trip to Setiawan. Driving about an hour from Ipoh, we were not regret paying a visit at Ah Pek Lee Kou Hock Seafood. The food were simply amazing and reasonably priced.

I heard one should order their Coconut Toddy, which is famous in Setiawan. One jug is merely RM8/=

The naturally fermented alcohol taste rather sweet, even though the yeast smell was a bit strong when initially sipped, but it is nice to drink it.

The first dish that comes to our table was the fried small fish, which was really crunchy and appetizing!! Believe it or not, for the smaller fish, we even ate together with the bones!!! In order to fulfill our hunger, we ordered one more plate of this cruncy fish, so lovely!!!

I watched the interview on AEC about this restaurant months back, that they serves fresh oyster as well, so we ordered 2 portion, just to attempt how'z it.Hmm, even though the look were not so promising ( as compared to the ones in Oz)...but it was really fresh! Merely RM5/portion

Then comes the salt and pepper Mantis Prawn, the real huge one, one piece cost RM25/=. This is a must try here, the flesh is so fat and juicy, there's even egg inside..oh my, so divine!!!

Not to forget this delectable fried rice and black pepper crab. The crab was super fresh, you may also opt for steamed crab which is highly recommended~!!

We love the seafood here and truly enjoyed the meal! Scrumptious! The total damage was RM94.
P/S: THE only drawback was the irritating flies, can't sit outside, must sit inside the air-conditional section.
