Wong Kee@Chemor

I was reading Ipoh Echo the other day and was attracted by the write up of SeeFoon on her food recommendation. Since she is a real foodie , I decided to give it a try on this place that is highly recommended by her.
My friend told me the place will be very crowded especially on weekend, so we called and make a booking to secure our table.
Yes, arriving at around 7.30pm, the place was really crowded, and be prepared to wait for at least 25minutes. However, you'll forget about the waiting time once you starts tasting the yummy food.

We ordered sambal fried"lou shu fen" - superb!Even though we didn't taste strong taste of sambal, but it was full of "wok hei" and yet, not that oily - everybody love this! Must order!

Another signature dish recommended by SeeFoon was the "Shang Yu" Ikan Haruan fish broth. Oh my, the soup was really rich - boiled with fish meat, fish bones, red dates, wolf berries, wood ear fungus etc. Lovely!

The good stuff never ends here, the fried squid and steamed frog legs were equally good. Squid was fresh, not overly powdered when fried, inside is still juicy, and outside is so crispy!

The frog leg was fresh! When the boss took out order, he told us there is two type of frog legs, small and big size. Of course, the big ones are more expensive, but he claimed that all are wild-caught and not farmed rare.

Veg dish with belacan stir fried was to our liking as well!

The only dish that was so so was the beehoon fried crab - we felt that it was bit too dry.

Overall, food rating is 8/10. Price are reasonable - total food for 5 pax including beer was just RM137. We will definitely come back for other dishes in their menu!

皇城美食坊 Emperor City, Macau

A local friend introduced this place to my dad, if not as tourist we won't be knowing this humble, and not strategically located restaurant, in fact is a gem for Cantonese cuisine. Prices are reasonable but food served here are 5 star!!!
I am not a fan of lamb, but this place serves superb braised lamb which really surprised me!!! They did it really good, the lamb pieces were so tender...

Second surprise - I do not cockles but the cockles served in Emperor City are huge and super duper fresh....thumbs Up!! The cockle 螄蚶 is as big as an oyster, I enjoy the freshness of the cockle 螄蚶 really!! You'll never see these in Malaysia. The restaurantuer merely boiled the cockles till they are cooked, no need of dipping with any sauce, there is no fishy/muddy taste!

Another dish is the clams - which are equally good and fresh! Yummylicious!

This special noodles stir fried with prawns was another gem, we can't resist and re-ordered another pot. Love the sauce and texture of the noodles

The steamed fish also doesn't lose it's charm as compared to other dishes, we love it too! Fresh!

Drop by Emperor City if you visit Macau, it will definitely surprise you!
Not only that, there is a Espirit outlet nearby (Opp McDonald's), we managed to grab a lot of great deal there after the nice dinner, double happiness!!!!

Kung Tuk Lam Shanghai Vegetarian功德林上海素食@WTC, Causeway Bay, HK

This is so far the best vegetarian food I have ever had. The main attraction of Kung Tuk Lam is strictly no MSG. We called and made a booking at around 4.30pm on fourth day of Chinese New Year. However, the place is full, we only managed to secure a table at 8.30pm. Gosh....Hong Kong got so many good food, especially around Causeway Bay area, and yet this place business is so good?!!
This place is located at 10th floor of World Trade Centre at Causeway Bay. Make sure you get a corner table, as it has got a perfect view overseeing the Kowloon skyline.

Food are really good, as compared to most of the vegetarian restaurant I've tried, because it's not at all oily and salty. One can really taste the best out of these dishes.

葡京潮洲 Chui Chow Restaurant@ Hotel Lisboa, Macau

Macau is really a city of "old and modern" combination. One one hand, you can still see those ancient looking building, beautiful churches, temples that are heritage listed. On the other hand, Macau has got the most modern building especially those LA based casinos, like Venetian, MGM Grand, Wynn etc.

Food over here in Macau can be really authentic. Dad introduced this place that serves really authentic Chui Chow food, located in the third floor of Hotel Lisboa.

The first dish was cold dish - fish. A simple looking fish, but is definitely not easy to make, even though the dish is cold, but it is not fishy at all.

The oishi small oyster chui chow style porridge which I love it a lot!!!

Other dishes that makes the Chui Chow porridge perfect...

This is braised goose wings - something not so common. Normally, we don't get this dish in Malaysian Chui Chow porridge restaurant.

Surely pleasant, simple meal that washed off some heavy food we have been eating all these days. 100% no MSG and authentic!!

Mokuren Japanese Cuisin@Medan Ipoh Bistari, IPOH

I knew this restaurant has opened for quite sometime, but I only tried the food here recently. Heard from colleague that the food is rather good, and the best part is there is no service charge and tax.
We reached there on a Friday night for dinner, already the place is crowded, or maybe because there a not many tables available, we have to sit at the sushi bar counter, which is not so ergonomic! I was not managed to take good photos, due to the dim lighting, or the limitation of my camera.

Anyway, the price is comparatively reasonable here at Mokuren. Food is fresh, at least for the sushi and sashimi we ordered. I will come back to this place again, for sure. The only draw back was serving is very slow, it took us almost 1 1/2 hour to wait for 6 items, gosh! There is only one sushi chef making the sushi, perhaps?! Or only the lady boss and another waitress working at the frontline? When we reordered, the waitress missed out our item, and let us waited for a stupid 20mins. And I don't like the serving to have too a big time gap, not shiok!!! Haha....I hope they can improve on this and it will be a really great place to dine at, at least the sashimi and sushi taste better than their nearby competitors!!!!

West Villa 西苑 Restaurant@ Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

West Villa is serving quality Cantonese food, and comparatively less expensive than the award winning/ Michelin guided Lei Garden Restaurant利苑.
We went to this outlet at Causeway Bay after shopping around Sogo area.

West Villa is well-known of its authentic Cantonese cuisine and insists of not using MSG for food preparation in order to bring out the best and most original taste of their dishes. Highly recommended by the captain, a must order dish here at West Villa - "Big Brother Char Siew"大哥大叉燒. One of the most famous in Hong Kong! must try!! Without colouring, best chosen meat pieces, tender char siew - superb!!!

Seriously , it taste much better than its look!

Check out the soup boiled in the most traditional way/ pot to bring out the best taste)

The rest of the gang enjoyed their braised goose feet鹅掌 at West Villa (which I don't know how to appreciate).

Since it's Chinese New Year, we ordered the "Lap Mei" rice臘味飯 well

I love the Chinese sausage...

Lin Heung Kui 蓮香居@Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

We were in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year third day onwards for a short break. Around 9am we arrived at Lin Heung Kui for a typical Hong Kong dim sum. The ambiance is really classic,cool, I like it! If you would like to have the feel of "yum cha" in Hong Kong, this place is highly recommended. As compared to Lin Heung Lou蓮香樓, this place is much more cleaner and decent. Check out some of the dim sum we ordered. Overall, everything is up to mark and we love it!!! Not only that, the price is rather reasonable!!!
